We took a 1970's fireplace that was completely out of portion and made it fit the room.  The huge curved too high brick hearth was removed, reduced in height and width, and faced with marble.  The existing mantel shelf was too short making the fireplace look squat.  The shelf was raised to the correct height and a panel was built to go the the ceiling.  Crown molding was then added around the entire room.  The fireplace is now an elegant fixture and the focal point of the room.

“Mary worked with us to redesign an existing 1970’s fireplace into a lovely floor to ceiling mantle.  The proportion of mantle to fireplace opening is now correct, and Mary's color suggestions for marble and paint enhance the new proportions perfectly, creating an entirely new focal point for our family room.”
